If you're running windows you can turn off all the little bells and dings. Open control panel, open "Sounds and Audio Devices", select the "Sounds" tab, and under "Sound Scheme" choose "No Sounds". Opt to not save your current scheme and then click "Ok" at the bottom. As you install new software you may have to reapply this theme.

I hope this helps!

The turning off your volume on your computer helps a great deal. Great tips.

Let us not underestimate how hard it is to be silent. Silence is hard because it requires the inner disposition to go to the place where we are weak, vulnerable, lonely, and broken. This is our spontaneous response to lack of noise. What we desire most is noise to do away with the pain of our situations and circumstances, the suffering in society and that which we have no power over. As noise-prone human beings, we want to drive out the silence because it makes us think of the situations in our lives. And so we ignore our golden gift - the power fo silence, which is our ability to enter into solitude with ourselves and really begin to break through and find answers for our lives. Those who can sit in silence with their fellowman, not knowing what to say but knowing that they should be there, can bring new life in a dying heart. Those who can sit in silence with themselves and truly stay silent, will find that they are beginning to embrace a higher sense of empowerment over situations and circumstances. They are not afraid to turn off the volume, not just off their computers, but also of the many noises that crowd out the ability to penetrate into the real essence fo themselves.
